Mom's Henna Adventure

So I've decided after many, many years of coloring my hair with store bought and salon chemicals that I should go more natural. I've also had a very dry, itchy scalp problem, (no, it's not lice, I keep checking!), and my gray is more prominent. Every time I color my hair the gray COMES RIGHT BACK!

My awesome man, Tony, suggested that a friend of his uses Henna, so I started research in my usual maniac mom fashion. I've read everything I could get my hands on, been warned by a hairdresser of one of my friends to be careful, stocked up on lemon juice, gloves, and ordered the Henna from a reputable website with a help desk and everything. I got a Henna called Rajasthani Monsoon, which has several tortes about being good for covering gray. 100 grams is supposed to be enough for short hair, though I wish I had bought two packages just in case. I can buy it in bulk if it works!

Today, it arrived, so I am all set. I've mixed it up to cure and release the dye for at least 8 hours, as per the instructions. I will apply it tonight after the kids are in bed, and wrap my head with plastic wrap and wait 5-6 more hours and see how it goes.

I'm a natural mousy brunette, but I've been red for over 20 years now, so I'm used to the ginger and prefer it. The gray is the problem, since I'm in my mid thirties, and it just won't go away, and I'm not ready to go completely gray, yet!

I really hope this is the start of a chemical-free hair color for me, and its supposed to last longer, be really good for your hair, and give it more body and shine.
They also sell something called Cassia, which is another plant like Henna that gives condition and shine, but not a lot of color. Plan to try that next on my daughter, who I don't ever want to color her hair, but a natural treatment, would be different!
My next post will have before and after photos...
